Scripps M.S. students are self-funded. Full details on the cost of attending the Scripps Institution of Oceanography may be found on the UC San Diego Graduate Division website as well as the UCSD Current Students website.
Teaching Assistantships may be available to Scripps M.S. students, however spaces are limited and priority is given to PhD students in need of financial support.

Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI)
MBARI’s summer internship program provides an opportunity for talented college students (undergraduate and graduate) and educators to come to MBARI for a period of 10 weeks during the summer to work on a specific project under MBARI staff supervision.

Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program
The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding scholarship and encourages independent graduate level research -- particularly by female and minority students -- in oceanography, marine biology and maritime archaeology. The program is administered through NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries.

NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (NESSF)
NESSF solicits applications from accredited U.S. universities on behalf of individuals pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in Earth and space sciences, or related disciplines. The purpose of NESSF is to ensure continued training of a highly qualified workforce in disciplines needed to achieve NASA’s scientific goals. Awards made will be in the form of training grants with the adviser serving as the principal investigator.

National Science Foundation - Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)
The purpose of NSF GRFP is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce in the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in fields within NSF's mission. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research.

National Science Foundation - East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for U.S. Graduate Students (EAPSI)
EAPSI awards provide U.S. graduate students in science, engineering, and education: 1) first-hand research experiences in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore or Taiwan; 2) an introduction to the science, science policy, and scientific infrastructure of the respective location; and 3) an orientation to the society, culture and language. It is expected that EAPSI awards will help students initiate professional relationships to enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts.

NOAA Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention (MPOWIR) Internship Program
The goal of the NOAA MPOWIR internship program is to familiarize junior women in the field of physical oceanography with the research conducted at the NOAA labs and to afford NOAA scientists the opportunity to work with a graduate student on a project of joint interest.

NOAA National Sea Grant Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship
This program provides an opportunity for graduate students to work with hosts in the legislative branch, executive branch, or appropriate associations/institutions located in the Washington, D.C. area. Established in 1979, the fellowship provides a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans
The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. A New American is an individual who (1) is a resident alien; i.e., holds a Green Card, or, (2) has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen, or (3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens. The Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowship offers merit-based awards for outstanding graduate students to conduct research related to the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI)
STRI offers short term (10 week) and full year fellowships to support creative young researchers at critical stages of their careers. Modern facilities in tropical mangrove, forest and marine ecosystems and a thriving research community enable scholars to hone good ideas into brilliant questions. Switzer Environmental Fellowship Program
The goal of the Switzer Environmental Fellowship Program is to support highly talented graduate students in New England and California whose studies are directed toward improving environmental quality and who demonstrate the potential for leadership in their field. The Foundation broadly defines its interest in the environment and the means by which positive results can be achieved. Awards have been made to students pursuing environmental policy, economics, land and water conservation, public health, journalism, architecture, environmental justice, business and law as well as sciences including biology, chemistry and engineering.

Competitive Edge
The Competitive EDGE Summer Research Program is an eight-week summer transition program designed to give selected graduate students an opportunity to begin research in their UC San Diego academic department the summer prior to the start of their graduate program. Participants are required to attend workshops, which acclimate them to the university. In addition, these workshops provide an opportunity for participants to network with one another and build relationships. Workshop facilitators are members of the UC San Diego community and serve as faculty, staff or continuing graduate students in various academic fields.

San Diego Fellowship
The University of California, San Diego offers the San Diego Fellowship program as a means to increase campus diversity. Edna Bailey Sussman Foundation Internships
The Sussman Foundation sponsors research and internships that enable graduate students to accept non-paying internship positions in environmental fields. Currently enrolled students may apply by responding to the call for applications, usually in January.
Tribal Membership Initiative
The Tribal Membership Initiative endeavors to increase diversity by providing fellowships to prospective students from federally recognized tribes and of Native Hawaiian ancestry.
