- Call for Proposals: 2026 Shiptime
Review: Proposals will be reviewed in August 2025
Awards: Announcements will be made in September 2025
The UC Ship Funds Program is now soliciting proposals from students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty and staff for ship time aboard research vessels operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Awards pay for ship time and the operation of standard shipboard instrumentation at sea. For student cruises, limited funds are available for cruise-related expenses (for instance non-standard shipboard instrumentation, shipping, travel, data processing, or sample analysis costs). To be considered, these costs should be specifically described and estimated in the proposal.
Please see the menu links for information regarding eligibility, prioritization of proposals, and how to apply.
Proposals for work during the periods of availability below are solicited.
Ship schedules are subject to change. If you intend to submit a proposal, please check for up-to-date scheduling information to include in your proposal.
Bob and Betty Beyster: contact Brett Pickering
Roger Revelle, Sally Ride, Robert Gordon Sproul: contact Hannah Delapp
The Program anticipates awarding the following maximum numbers of days aboard each vessel.

Robert Gordon Sproul: up to 21 days, envisioned as multiple short trips for a variety of different projects
Sally Ride: up to 14 days
Roger Revelle: up to 14 days
For any specific project, any number of days may be proposed, up to the maximum for the ship requested. Please remember to include any port days required for mobilizing and demobilizing.
